Choosing E-Commerce Software: What to Look For
Most people planning an online store start comparing platforms by looking at design examples. Yet what decides your satisfaction two years later is how the software behaves as order volume grows, whether it can connect with the other companies you work with and how flexible it is when your needs change. We recommend asking the following questions when evaluating any software.
We explain in detail how connections work inside the system on our integrations page. You will find Aurora Smart E-Commerce’s answer to every question on the list below in the features section.
- Can your bank, marketplaces, carrier and e-invoice provider connect directly?
- Are integrations built into the system, or do they need a separate program and an extra subscription?
- Is the price a single package, or are features and integrations billed separately?
- Does stock update automatically across every sales channel and at your in-store checkout, if you have one?
- Can promotions, coupons and gift cards be set up from the panel without a developer?
- Is the design custom to your company and products, or does it use the same template as other stores?
- When you want to sell abroad, are languages, currencies and shipping ready to go?
- Can you manage orders and stock from your phone?
- Is there a support line you can reach when problems arise, and what are its hours?
Not a Ready-Made Theme, a Design Made for Your Brand
Stores built on ready-made themes all look alike, forcing brands to present their products exactly like their competitors do. Aurora has no ready-made themes; every store is designed uniquely around your company and product portfolio. A manufacturer selling a single product line and a store with hundreds of categories need entirely different storefronts. After launch you manage settings such as the logo, fonts, menu, homepage blocks and product grid yourself in the panel; we describe our design process on the concept design page.
A Fast, Comfortable Store on Mobile
A large share of online shopping happens on phones, and Google evaluates your site primarily by its mobile version. A category page that loads slowly on mobile or a checkout form that is hard to fill in is reason enough for a customer to abandon their cart. That is why we design buttons large enough to tap comfortably with a thumb, automatically convert images to fast-loading formats and configure caching. Find the details on our mobile-responsive design and speed & performance optimization pages.
Scalability Can’t Be Bolted On Later
A store that starts with a hundred products can grow to thousands of products and multiple sales channels within a few years. Switching software means migrating products, customer accounts and the page URLs Google already knows. That is why we recommend choosing for the store you will have in two years, not the one you have today. If you use WordPress / WooCommerce, we can migrate your customer, order and coupon data to Aurora.
